When we found out our son was dyslexic we didn’t know where to start or much about it. All we knew was that our son was struggling and we wanted to help him. We were referred to Selena and didn’t know what to expect but we were willing to try. From the moment he started with Selena he felt comfortable, confident and happy. His growth in the first three months was astronomical!! He told me “mom, I get it now!” Hearing him say that was so emotional for me because I knew he finally felt good about learning. That’s what Selena does. She works at your child’s pace and builds them back up in a way they will understand. She treats him like family and truly cares about him. Not just his progress with reading and writing but his confidence as a person and what it means to have dyslexia. I was so worried he wouldn’t learn to read and now he reads everything!!! He looks forward to seeing her and knows if he is struggling at school he can go to Selena for help. That support alone is worth every penny. I really have a hard time putting into words how Selena has impacted our family and our son. I couldn’t imagine the struggle we would be having and the suffering our son may have had if we didn’t have her. She is truly gifted and magical. We sleep at night knowing our son will grow and strive. It would NOT have happened with out her. Her results speak for themselves and our sons smile every day says it all. We will be working with Selena for the rest of our child’s school years because it’s an investment that’s truly worth it! I feel so lucky we found her.
In 2020, our 5th-grade son was reading below a 1st-grade level despite specialized reading intervention in Douglas County School District since kindergarten. We were devastated and had him tested for Dyslexia, where we learned this disorder severely impacted him. Over the next two years, we utilized numerous expensive tutors, tried countless reading methods, and even had him attend a private school for a semester. Nothing worked. Then we found All Things Reading.
Ben is now an 8th grader and has been given the gift of explicit and structured literacy education by an amazing reading specialist, Selena Roth. For the first time in 13 years, our son wanted to read his birthday card out loud in front of people! He is excited to learn, works incredibly hard, and is encouraged by Selena’s teaching style and how well-trained she is in working with adolescents. Without her explicit, evidence-based reading instruction, our son’s future would be bleak. Selena has been a life changer for our two children. When we found out they were dyslexic we had no idea how to help them. We didn’t know anything about Dyslexia. Selena provided knowledge as well as tutoring them via zoom. She has been an amazing advocate for them. Attending 504 meetings and always encouraging them. She communicates with teachers to collaborate on lessons so they can work together to get the most success. She is always open to questions from me, the kids, or teachers. She has a huge heart and truly cares about the success of her students. She is always positive and encouraging. Her vast knowledge of reading disabilities and how to work with different age groups and levels is impressive. We are truly grateful for her heart, knowledge, and teamwork.
